Today is a special day to me for a lot of reasons. It’s my birthday and I give God thanks for another year by his grace…. 39 and counting 🙂
It is also Holy Saturday, the day between Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday. It is a day when we remember that Jesus actually died for us and stayed dead until his resurrection. Jesus was not faking it, he endured death and ultimately conquered the grave so that in him, humanity might find life as God always intended, in God’s own presence, the most sacred of places for all eternity.
Quite randomly this morning I started listening to a Spanish playlist with worship and praise songs… many of them are familiar, just in another language… what it reminds me of is the effect Jesus has had around the world on every nation, tribe and tongue, in the most diverse places the suffering, death and resurrection of the Messiah has impacted the sons and daughters of Adam.
Wherever you are today, whatever languages you speak, take the time to praise the God who gave you life and his Son, Jesus the Christ who died to pay the price for your sin so that you could live, together with God (Father, Son and Spirit) forever.
Consider the words of David from Psalm 16:7-11 this Holy Saturday:
I bless the Lord who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption. You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
